Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is winning appreciation from audiences once again with his powerful performance in Kartavya, which is now streaming in Telugu. Ever since the trailer was released, many viewers compared Saif’s rugged look and rustic screen presence to his iconic role as Langda Tyagi from Omkara. However, Kartavya presents a completely different character arc for the actor. In the film, Saif Ali Khan plays morally upright police officer Pawan Malik, also known as Pawan Singh, a man driven by honesty, responsibility, and duty despite being surrounded by political pressure, betrayal, and personal threats.

Set in the fictional town of Jhamli, the film opens with Pawan Malik celebrating his birthday alongside fellow police officers. Soon, the story shifts into a gripping drama filled with power struggles, family conflicts, deceit, and emotional challenges that constantly test the officer’s integrity. One of the biggest highlights of the film is Saif Ali Khan’s effortless transformation into a desi heartland character. The actor, who earlier revealed that learning the Haryanvi dialect was one of the toughest parts of his preparation, delivers the dialogues with remarkable ease and authenticity.
Unlike the cunning and manipulative Langda Tyagi character from Omkara, Pawan Malik in Kartavya is a duty-bound officer who prioritizes ethics and responsibility above everything else. The title itself reflects the central theme of the movie, focusing on the responsibilities a man carries toward his profession and family. As Pawan Malik gets pulled deeper into political conspiracies and betrayal from his own people, he is forced to protect his loved ones without compromising his principles. The emotional conflicts between his professional commitments and family responsibilities form the emotional core of the story.
Veteran actor Zakir Hussain also plays a key role in the film as Pawan Malik’s father, adding depth to the family drama portions. With its Telugu streaming release, Kartavya is now reaching a wider South Indian audience, especially viewers who enjoy intense police dramas rooted in rural backdrops and emotional storytelling. Saif Ali Khan’s grounded performance and the film’s realistic atmosphere are already becoming major talking points among OTT audiences.
