Following the success of several raw and rustic Telugu films in recent years, many filmmakers have started exploring grounded stories filled with intense emotions and realistic storytelling. Joining that trend is the recently released Telugu drama Therachaapa, which is now preparing for its OTT debut after its theatrical run.
The digital streaming rights of Therachaapa have been acquired by Sun NXT, and the platform has officially confirmed that the film will premiere on May 15, 2026. Audiences who missed the movie in theatres can now stream it online from the comfort of their homes.
Directed and written by Joel George, the film revolves around the struggles faced by fishermen in the Telugu states. The makers attempted to present the harsh realities, emotional conflicts, and survival challenges of fishing communities through a rustic narrative and realistic visuals.
The movie was produced by Kailash Durgam. The technical crew includes Prazwal Krish as the music composer, while Raju Bodasingi handled the editing department. Cinematography for the film was jointly managed by Azeem and Venkat, who captured the coastal backdrop and rural atmosphere effectively.
Therachaapa features a strong ensemble cast including Naveenraj Sankarapu, Pooja Suhasini, Srilu, Jagadeesh Pratap Bandari, Rajiv Kanakala, Rocky, Naga Mahesh, Prudhvi Raj, Fish Venkat, Ashok Jabardasth, Nagi Jabardasth, Apparao Jabardasth, and Rising Raju in important roles.
Though the film received a mixed response during its theatrical release, its grounded storytelling and emotional backdrop created curiosity among audiences. With OTT viewers showing increasing interest in rustic dramas and village-based stories, Therachaapa is expected to find a wider audience after its digital premiere on Sun NXT.
